India is experiencing extreme heat with Delhi hitting a record temperature of 52.3 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, marking a national milestone. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning for “severe heat-wave conditions” following this record-breaking temperature in the Delhi suburb of Mungeshpur.
Authorities have issued a red alert for parts of northwest India where temperatures are significantly higher than usual. The ongoing heat wave has impacted daily life, with schools closing and hospitals witnessing a rise in heat-related illnesses, particularly among outdoor workers.
In response to the surging demand for electricity and water, Delhi’s municipal authorities have urged residents to conserve resources. Water Minister Atishi Marlena emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in addressing water scarcity and implementing measures to ensure equitable distribution.
