The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) recently held a meeting where they strongly condemned the culture of mob vigilantism in Pakistan. Led by the new head, Dr Muhammad Raghib Hussain Naimi, the council discussed the recent incident in Sargodha where an angry mob attacked Christian families over alleged desecration of the Holy Quran.
While acknowledging the desecration of the Holy Quran, the CII called for severe punishment for both sides involved in the violence. They reiterated their recommendation for the establishment of special courts to try such cases promptly.
Dr Naimi emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and stated that mob justice goes against the teachings of Quran, Sunnah, and the Constitution. He referred to the national document, Paigham-i-Pakistan, which emphasizes the role of the state in maintaining law and order.
The CII has previously made similar recommendations after incidents of mob violence, urging the government to take action to prevent such occurrences in the future.
It is crucial for citizens to be aware that taking the law into their own hands is unacceptable, and justice should be served through legal channels. The CII’s stance highlights the importance of respecting human dignity and avoiding vigilante justice at all costs.
