2024 Muslim Film Fest: Top 6 Highlights

The UK Muslim Film charity has recently launched its first Muslim International Film Festival (MIFF) in London to showcase outstanding films and filmmakers that highlight the diversity of Muslims globally. The festival will take place at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square from May 30th to June 2nd, featuring films from various countries like the UK, Morocco, Jordan, and Palestine.

MIFF aims to present a more authentic and respectful portrayal of Muslims on screen, countering the stereotypical depictions often seen in Western cinema. This year’s festival includes a variety of films, but here are some highlights:

Hounds (2023)

Director: Kamal Lazraq

A Moroccan crime noir with a comedic twist follows a father and son’s misadventures after a kidnapping gone wrong.

An Orange from Jaffa (2023)

Director: Mohammed Almughanni

A powerful short film depicting the struggles of a Palestinian man at an Israeli checkpoint.

Inshallah A Boy (2024)

Director: Amjad Al Rasheed

This award-winning Jordanian drama explores the unjust inheritance laws through the eyes of a Muslim widow.

Sky Peals (2024)

Director: Moin Hussain

A thought-provoking sci-fi film about a mixed-race man’s quest for identity and connection in a lonely world.
