Ukrainian Defense Minister: Russian Troop Expansion Expected to Reach 200-300K

Russian military presence in Ukraine is set to increase with an additional 200-300 thousand troops joining the current 500 thousand stationed there, according to Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov in an interview with Reuters. To address the surge in troops, Ukraine is focusing on training personnel, improving infrastructure, and modernizing equipment.

With recruitment challenges, Ukraine aims to bolster its defense capabilities through a new mobilization law enacted on May 18. Despite facing Russian assaults in the Kharkiv region and an expansion of active hostilities, Ukrainian forces have managed to halt advancements and are conducting counter-offensive operations.

President Zelensky has warned of a potential summer offensive from Russia as the US delivers long-awaited weapons to support Ukrainian troops on the front lines. The situation remains tense as both sides prepare for further escalation in the ongoing conflict.
