A recent survey conducted by the Africa Polling Institute (API) revealed that an overwhelming majority of Nigerian citizens are dissatisfied with the current state of affairs in the country under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The survey, titled “#NigeriaSpeaks,” included 3,996 respondents from across various demographic groups in the country and was conducted between May 1 and 18, 2024.
The results of the survey showed that 84% of citizens expressed profound sadness about the current state of affairs in Nigeria, citing issues such as hunger, poverty, and dissatisfaction. The majority of respondents (81%) believe that the country is heading in the wrong direction, with challenges like unemployment, insecurity, and poor electricity supply being highlighted.
In terms of Tinubu’s job performance, 78% of citizens rated him as performing “abysmally,” while other arms of government such as the Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the Chief Justice of Nigeria also received poor ratings.
The survey also assessed the performance of Tinubu’s cabinet members, with 68% of respondents stating that none of them had performed well. The top performing ministers identified by the people include the Minister of Education, Minister of the FCT, Minister for Works and Housing, Minister of Communication, and Coordinating Minister of Health.
On the other hand, the least performing ministers according to the survey are the Minister of Power, Minister of Finance, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, and Minister of Agriculture.
