South American theft ring uses hidden cameras in shrubs in California burglaries

Residents of Los Angeles County, California, are on high alert as South American individuals on limited visas have been discovered using hidden cameras in shrubs and gardens to target homes for theft. The LA County Sheriff’s Office recently shared images of the surveillance equipment found by a local resident in their flower bed.

Known as South American Theft Groups (SATG), these organized criminal enterprises primarily consist of Chilean or Colombian nationals with tourist visas. They travel across states committing burglaries and thefts, strategically placing hidden cameras in natural surroundings to monitor homeowner activities.

The sheriff’s office warned residents to watch for unusual objects in their yards and bushes, as the SATG use sophisticated technology to conduct real-time surveillance. Homeowners are advised to inspect their property regularly, install security measures like motion-activated lights, and report any suspicious findings to local law enforcement immediately.
