South Africa is deploying over 2,800 troops to tackle security concerns on election day and beyond. President Cyril Ramaphosa has authorized the deployment of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) to ensure the safety of voters as the country heads to the polls. The cost is estimated to be nearly $3 million with the deployment running from May 20 to June 7 as part of Operation PROSPER.
Law enforcement agencies are on high alert to address potential security challenges during this crucial election season. With 27.7 million voters expected to participate, speculation is rife about the formation of a coalition government, a first in post-apartheid South Africa. The focus remains on maintaining peace and stability in a country plagued by violent crime.
