Oman’s Digital Transformation Initiative Making Strides
Oman has reached a 53% completion rate in its government’s digital transformation initiative as of September 2023, announced by H E Dr Ali bin Amer al Shidhani, Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology. This achievement was highlighted at the Government Digital Transformation Forum held during the COMEX Show.
The forum showcased various government institutions’ advancements in adopting digital technologies and served as a platform to discuss best practices and future trends in enhancing public services. Oman recorded over 30 million electronic transactions and nearly one million electronic signature transactions in the first half of 2023 alone, showing substantial progress in digital integration.
Additionally, more than 41 million digital transactions were processed through the government portal from January to October 2023, with over 3.3 million ID/residence card certificates issued digitally. The country aims to digitize all basic government services by 2025, with 61% of the target already achieved.
Oman’s commitment to digital transformation demonstrates its focus on leveraging technology for improved government efficiency and service delivery, essential for socio-economic development and innovation across sectors. The forum emphasized ‘Comprehensive Digital Transformation’ and ‘Innovation and Digital Excellence’ to enhance government operations and services through global best practices and smart technologies.
