NY prosecutors consider new charges as more accusers come forward against Weinstein

Manhattan prosecutors are evaluating new claims of sexual misconduct against Harvey Weinstein, potentially seeking a new indictment ahead of his retrial on rape charges later this year. Assistant District Attorney Nicole Blumberg stated that additional assault claims are being assessed for statute of limitations and some potential survivors may now be willing to testify.

Weinstein appeared in court in a wheelchair, facing the possibility of a new indictment as prosecutors update the case direction by the end of June. His lawyer expressed confidence in defending against any additional accusers while addressing concerns over discussing potential witnesses publicly.

The retrial is tentatively scheduled after Labor Day, following the overturn of Weinstein’s 2020 conviction for raping Jessica Mann and assaulting Miriam Haley. The #MeToo era began with Weinstein’s accusations, symbolizing America’s reckoning with sexual misconduct by powerful figures.

Despite challenges in the legal process, Weinstein maintains that any sexual activity was consensual. The next court date is set for July 9, continuing the saga of trials in New York and Los Angeles as Weinstein serves time for convictions in both states.
