The Kano State Government has taken a strong stance against public protests within the state, citing potential threats to peace and order. Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, announced the ban on demonstrations, warning of consequences for those who defy the directive.
The government pointed out an alleged plot by opposition figures to incite chaos by sponsoring protests in support of the dethroned Emir of Kano. The state has prohibited any form of public gatherings and urged citizens to go about their normal activities peacefully.
Recent court rulings regarding the eviction of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II have added to the tension in Kano. While the Federal High Court ordered his eviction, a State High Court issued a restraining order against security agencies. The Federal Court, however, affirmed Aminu Bayero as the rightful Emir of Kano.
The government vowed to maintain vigilance to safeguard the peace in the state and cautioned against allowing external influences to disrupt the tranquillity Kano currently enjoys.
