Canada and Finland support Ukraine’s right to use weapons in self-defense against Russia
In a bold move, Canadian and Finnish authorities have given their approval for Ukraine to use the weapons supplied by both countries in a potential offensive against Russia. Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly emphasized that there are “no conditions on the final recipient of arms shipments to Ukraine,” expressing unwavering support for Ukraine’s right to defend itself amidst Russian aggression.
Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen also affirmed Ukraine’s right to use weapons donated by Finland in self-defense, highlighting the importance of adhering to international law. This decision comes in response to Ukrainian President Zelensky’s appeals for Western support in confronting Russian incursions and defending Ukrainian territories.
This development sets the stage for a potential escalation in tensions between NATO allies and Russia, with President Putin cautioning against aggressive moves. The upcoming NATO Summit in Washington will likely address the implications of supporting Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression.
