Exciting times lie ahead for The Arts Council as Maura McGrath takes on the role of Chair for a five-year term starting on 12 June. The board, led by McGrath, will have its first meeting on 19 June as they embark on a new chapter following the departure of Professor Kevin Rafter.
The newly appointed Chair brings over 20 years of experience in arts management, having led on significant projects at the National Concert Hall. With a budget of €134 million to manage, McGrath and her team will focus on securing an additional €16 million in funding to support the arts sector’s ambitions.
The appointment of McGrath and five new board members has been welcomed by the arts community, with hopes for sustained investment and support for artists. As the sector looks to the future, ensuring adequate funding, artist spaces, and addressing issues of harassment and exploitation remain key priorities for the new board.
With a strong foundation laid by McGrath and her team, the arts sector is optimistic about the future under The Arts Council’s leadership.
