The United Nations Security Council is working towards a resolution aimed at putting an end to the violence in Rafah, following Israel’s deadly attack on a refugee camp. Algerian Ambassador, Amar Bendjama, stated that the resolution will be concise and decisive in order to halt the killing of civilians in the region.
Despite urgent meetings and appeals, the council has struggled to find a consensus to stop Israel’s offensive in Gaza, which has resulted in a high number of casualties, particularly among women and children. The recent Israeli strike on a displacement camp in Rafah further escalated the death toll, with at least 21 more casualties reported.
Efforts to pass resolutions for an immediate ceasefire have been hindered by the United States, a key ally of Israel, despite two previous resolutions for humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza. The situation remains critical as the conflict continues to claim innocent lives.
