The highly anticipated closing arguments in Donald Trump’s criminal trial are set to take place after six weeks of testimony from over 20 witnesses. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s prosecutor is expected to argue that Trump was involved in a scheme to cover up hush money payments to Stormy Daniels, orchestrated by his former lawyer Michael Cohen. The prosecution alleges that Trump knowingly falsified records to evade election law.
On the flip side, Trump’s defense team is expected to assert that the prosecution has failed to provide sufficient evidence for their claims. They have raised doubts about the credibility of key witnesses, Cohen and Daniels, throughout the trial.
Central to the case is whether Trump misrepresented reimbursements for the $130,000 payment to Daniels as legitimate legal expenses. The defense contends that the checks and accompanying documentation are entirely accurate.
Following the closing arguments, the judge will provide instructions to the jury before deliberations commence, potentially as early as Tuesday or Wednesday.
