President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced the deployment of 2,828 National Defence Force (SANDF) members to work alongside police in preventing and combating crime during the upcoming elections. This move is aimed at ensuring the preservation of law and order during this crucial period.
On the eve of the elections, Ramaphosa officially informed the acting speaker of the National Assembly and the chair of the National Council of Provinces about the deployment, which falls under Operation Prosper and is effective from May 20 to June 7. The estimated expenditure for this deployment is close to R60m.
