President Cyril Ramaphosa has authorized the deployment of 2,828 South African National Defence Force (SANDF) personnel to ensure a peaceful election. Law enforcement agencies are on high alert as South Africa prepares for Election Day. Measures are in place to address any threats that may arise during the voting process. Former president Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe Party has previously issued threats of violence if his face is not on the ballot, but Police Minister Bheki Cele has made it clear that any anarchy or violence will not be tolerated on Election Day. The successful and peaceful conduct of the national elections remains a top priority for the government.
