The Social Democratic Party has solidified its position as the most popular political party in Finland, according to a recent opinion poll conducted by Helsingin Sanomat. The latest data shows a rise in support for the party, with a 1.1 percentage point increase to 22.7%, giving it a comfortable lead over its closest competitor, the National Coalition.
The party has seen a surge in popularity among women and remains the top choice among over 65-year-olds. This marks the highest level of support for the Social Democratic Party since January 2016, during a similar political landscape when the country was governed by a right-leaning coalition.
Meanwhile, the National Coalition maintained its support at 19.9%, while the Finns Party experienced a decline to 16.2%. The poll, conducted by Verian, also revealed slight changes in approval ratings for other political parties.
Despite recent political events, including significant fiscal adjustments and a high-profile incident involving a former Finns Party member, the ruling coalition still holds the support of 43.7% of the public.
The survey, which interviewed 2,484 individuals, has a margin of error of around two percentage points.
