SIPTU members at the National Advocacy Service (NAS) have voted overwhelmingly to go on strike due to a dispute over pay. The union claims that management has not followed a Labour Court recommendation on staff pay, with the Department of Social Protection allowing the situation to escalate.
SIPTU Deputy General Secretary John King expressed that members had no other choice but to strike in order to fight for fair wages. He emphasized the importance of NAS workers, who serve some of society’s most vulnerable individuals.
King also highlighted the threat to NAS’s future if proper pay increases are not provided. SIPTU has raised concerns about staff recruitment and retention if pay remains inadequate.
The NAS has not yet responded to the strike action announcement, and the Department of Social Protection is being approached for a statement on the matter.
