The recent power struggle over the Kano emirship throne has escalated into a peaceful demonstration led by supporters of the deposed 15th Emir Aminu Ado Bayero against the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano. The protest followed a special prayer session at the Nassarawa palace, where Bayero loyalists prayed for divine intervention to restore peace in Kano amidst the dissolution of five first-class emirs.
The demonstrators, holding placards against the Kano state Emirate Council Law, set a fire on the road towards the Government House, demanding justice for Bayero. Meanwhile, security presence has been reinforced at the palace where Bayero currently resides, with tensions mounting in the city over the emirship turmoil.
A social-cultural group, Arewa Social Contract Initiatives, has urged Bayero to leave Kano for the sake of peace, while the state government is taking measures to maintain order. Despite the challenges, the Governor has stood firm in his decision to reappoint Sanusi and restore the traditional emirate structure in Kano, ensuring stability and progress for the region.
