One-man panel reopens investigation into 40% commission for BBMP projects

One-man panel reopens investigation into 40% commission for BBMP projects

After a hiatus, the Justice HN Nagmohan Das Commission has resumed its investigation into BBMP works in Bengaluru. The commission has requested details of 75 projects conducted by BBMP between July 2019 and March 2023 following a directive from the Karnataka High Court. There is discontent over delays in concluding investigations related to the alleged 40% commission during the BJP’s tenure.

Retired High Court Judge Das has requested information on the works, and the BBMP has assigned four executive engineers as nodal officers to provide the necessary documents. The probe will focus on various BBMP departments such as road infrastructure, stormwater drains, and solid waste management. An expert has been appointed to investigate the files, and department heads are expected to cooperate.

The state government established the Commission last year to address corruption complaints, including allegations of harassment against contractors. The BBMP Contractors’ Association has accused the Palike of unfair practices during bill payments.
