The international airport in New Caledonia’s capital, Nouméa, will remain closed until June 2 due to violence sparked by voting reforms, resulting in seven deaths. French President Macron visited to ease tensions, but the situation remains tense, especially in the Greater Nouméa area.

Evacuation flights for stranded French tourists began, with flights to Australia and New Zealand for onward journeys to mainland France. French and other nationals are being repatriated, with ongoing efforts to ease the crisis in the French Pacific territory.
