White House’s Brief Response to ICJ Ruling on Rafah: Clear and Consistent View

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has ordered Israel to immediately halt its military offensive in Rafah, Gaza, and allow for the provision of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance.

In response to the ICJ’s ruling, the White House reiterated its clear and consistent stance on Israel’s invasion of Rafah. The court has instructed Israel to cease its military actions, open the Rafah crossing for aid access, and allow UN investigative bodies into Gaza. South Africa hailed the ruling as groundbreaking, emphasizing the need for a ceasefire and the protection of Palestinian civilians.

Israel and Hamas have conflicting responses to the ruling, with Israel calling South Africa’s accusations false and Hamas urging international pressure on Israel to comply with the decision. The ICJ further highlighted the gravity of the situation in Rafah and expressed concerns over the displacement of nearly 800,000 people.

Despite the ICJ’s order, Israel continues airstrikes on residential areas in Rafah, highlighting the ongoing tensions and need for urgent action to protect civilians in Gaza.
