The aerospace giant, Boeing, faces a lawsuit from families of US servicemen killed in a V-22 Osprey crash in California in 2022. The lawsuit accuses Boeing, Bell Textron, and Rolls-Royce of hiding and failing to correct known reliability issues in their aircraft. The V-22 Osprey, co-produced by Boeing, has been involved in numerous accidents over the years, claiming more than 60 lives.
The lawsuit alleges that the corporations provided false information about the safety and reliability of the V-22 Osprey aircraft, its engines, systems, and component parts. An investigation by the US Marine Corps found no errors on the part of the pilots or aircrew in the California crash. The V-22 Osprey is known for its vertical takeoff and landing capabilities but has a history of accidents and fatalities since its introduction.
Boeing was previously ordered to pay $8.1 million for failing to adhere to manufacturing specifications in V-22 parts production. The US military temporarily stopped flights of the aircraft for investigation after a crash in Japan. The V-22 Osprey has gained the nickname “widow maker” due to its history of fatalities.
