Recent reports of the Gupta brothers being arrested in India have caused confusion, as South Africa has issued warrants for different individuals. Justice minister Ronald Lamola clarified this at a media briefing, stating that the Guptas arrested in India are not the ones wanted by South Africa and Interpol.
The brothers – Ajay and Atul Gupta – remain fugitives of the law in South Africa. The Indian arrests were related to a suicide case, not the corruption charges they face in South Africa. The Guptas, known for their political influence during Jacob Zuma’s presidency, are accused of looting government funds and state-owned entities.
Lamola also praised the recent International Court of Justice decision against Israel, calling it a victory for international law. The ICJ ordered Israel to halt its invasion of Rafah and end its operation in the Gaza town.
