ICJ orders Israel to cease Rafah offensive promptly

Charities Celebrate International Court of Justice’s Ruling on Israel’s Offensive in Rafah

A coalition of 22 charities, including Oxfam and Medical Aid for Palestinians, has applauded the International Court of Justice’s recent ruling ordering Israel to cease its military offensive in Rafah. This decision comes after previous measures were ordered in January and March as part of the ongoing case brought by South Africa, accusing Israel of “genocidal acts” in Gaza.

In a joint statement, the charities urge the UK government to ensure Israel’s compliance with international law and the ICJ’s orders. They emphasize the need for an immediate ceasefire in Rafah and advocate for the suspension of arms transfers to Israel to prevent violations of human rights.

Charities such as CAFOD, Christian Aid, and War on Want have joined forces to uphold international conventions and prevent acts that could potentially violate the Genocide Convention. The collective effort aims to hold Israel accountable for its actions and safeguard the rights and well-being of Palestinians in the region.
