Baby Trafficking Gang Busted in Thane
Thane police’s crime branch made a significant breakthrough by arresting nine individuals from Mumbra and Nashik involved in abducting and selling infants. The gang was uncovered following a tip-off about individuals in Mumbra searching for buyers for a baby girl under three months old.
On May 22, the police set up a sting operation where a decoy customer agreed to purchase the baby girl for Rs 5 lakh. The operation resulted in the apprehension of a man attempting to exchange the child for money near Reti Bunder. Subsequent arrests followed swiftly.
The nine arrested individuals, including names like Sahil alias Saddam Hussain Makbul Ahmed Khan and Shalu Khaif Sheikh, were charged under IPC section 370 for human trafficking, along with the Juvenile Justice Act in Mumbra police station.
The mother of the baby girl, Shalu Shaikh, driven by financial distress after separating from her husband, was willing to sell her infant daughter, highlighting the dire circumstances that lead to such heinous crimes.
