Canada’s safety hinges on Ukraine

Canada has provided significant military aid to Ukraine, amounting to $2.86 billion from Jan. 24, 2022 to Feb. 29, 2022, according to the Ukraine Support Tracker. Despite ranking ninth in military aid allocation to Ukraine, behind countries like the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom, Canada’s support plays a crucial role in protecting Western nations from Russia’s aggression.

In return for this assistance, Ukraine acts as a shield against Russian expansionism, preventing a potential Third World War. With Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the West, including Canada, must stand united to prevent further aggression. President Joe Biden has emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine to deter Putin’s advances.

Despite the immense sacrifice made by Ukraine in defending its territory, the country faces significant challenges in reconstruction and recovery, estimated at $668 billion over the next decade. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has pledged ongoing support for Ukraine, with a budget allocation of $1.6 billion over five years for military aid.

However, Canada’s contribution falls short compared to other nations, creating a disparity in support for Ukraine. It is crucial for Canada to increase its aid to uphold international principles and protect its own interests in the face of global security threats.

Eugene Czolij, President of “Ukraine-2050” and former Ukrainian World Congress President, emphasizes the importance of continued support for Ukraine
