Today marks the 29th anniversary of the tragic Tuzla Gate massacre, where a grenade fired from Ozren Mountain by the Army of Republika Srpska killed 71 and wounded over 200 young people, with victims as young as two-and-a-half-year-old Sandro Kalesić.
RS Army General Novak Đukić, responsible for the massacre, was sentenced to 20 years in prison but has evaded justice by claiming to be undergoing treatment in Serbia. With a warrant issued for him, he remains in Serbia due to his citizenship.
In memory of the victims, Tuzla commemorates May 25 as a day of mourning since 2003, with flags flown at half-mast and events adapted to respect the day.
The citizens of Tuzla honor the innocent victims of this tragedy and all civilian victims of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, ensuring their memory lives on solemnly and respectfully.
