The United States Embassy in Zambia, represented by Chargé d’Affaires Linnisa Wahid, and Minister of Home Affairs, Honorable Jack Mwiimbu, have partnered to combat human trafficking in Zambia through the U.S.–Zambia Partnership to Prevent Trafficking in Persons (P2P). This initiative aims to enhance the Zambian government’s efforts by working with stakeholders and civil society to develop a sustainable response to human trafficking.
After extensive discussions, the P2P was officially signed, marking the beginning of a multi-year program funded by $4 million in U.S. foreign assistance. Save the Children will collaborate with Zambian ministries and the TIP Office to implement an action plan, focusing on promoting coordination, providing accessible protection services to trafficking victims, and ensuring a victim-centered approach to justice.
This groundbreaking partnership emphasizes the importance of utilizing legal frameworks to identify victims, investigate cases, and prosecute perpetrators of human trafficking in a trauma-informed manner. By working together, the U.S. and Zambia are taking a significant step towards eradicating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable individuals.
