Islamabad High Court Orders Live Streaming of Missing Persons Cases

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, senior puisne judge at Islamabad High Court, has issued an order for the live streaming of all missing persons cases. The purpose of this decision is to enhance public awareness and understanding of crucial legal matters. This development took place during a hearing regarding the disappearance of Kashmiri poet Ahmed Farhad Shah.

Justice Kayani has summoned top officials from intelligence agencies such as ISI, MI, and IB, as well as various government secretaries, for the next hearing scheduled on May 29. The judge has highlighted the importance of addressing the issue of missing persons, stating it as the most critical public interest matter currently.

The court’s written order includes key takeaways such as summoning the Defence Secretary to explain the practices of intelligence agencies, appointment of judicial assistants from PFUJ and journalist Hamid Mir, allowing case proceedings to be reported, and the order for live streaming of all missing persons cases to improve public awareness.

This decision comes amidst calls from the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan for the immediate release of Ahmed Farhad Shah, who was allegedly abducted from his home. The court has also questioned the accountability mechanisms within intelligence agencies and aims to establish a systematic procedure for addressing missing persons cases.

Justice Kayani has emphasized transparency and accountability in the working of institutions, particularly focusing on resolving the issue of missing persons in the country.
