Utah children’s book author accused of husband’s murder breaks silence: ‘This means war’

Utah mother of three and children’s book author, Kouri Richins, is breaking her year-long silence after being charged with attempted murder, aggravated murder, and drug possession, accused of poisoning her husband with illicit fentanyl to collect life insurance funds. In a recorded statement to “Dateline,” Richins expressed frustration with media portrayal and vowed to fight back.

Richins’ defense team recently withdrew from her case, leading to a motion to disqualify state prosecutors. Prosecutors allege that Richins, then 33, plotted her husband’s murder to secure life insurance funds and a multi-million dollar mansion. A medical examiner found lethal levels of fentanyl and other substances in her husband’s system.

Richins, who maintains her innocence, had previously written a children’s book about grief, inspired by her husband’s death. Despite the legal battle ahead, she remains defiant and determined to clear her name.
