UN Assembly Votes on Srebrenica Genocide Resolution

UN Assembly Votes on Srebrenica Genocide Resolution

Today, the UN General Assembly will vote on declaring July 11 as the International Day of Remembrance for the Genocide in Srebrenica. Germany and Rwanda are presenting the Resolution, with 32 member countries as co-sponsors. The Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the UN, Zlatko Lagumdžija, confirmed the final text of the Resolution, with amendments emphasizing criminal responsibility and unity in diversity.

The draft Resolution condemns any denial of genocide and urges member states to educate future generations on the established facts. The resolution references verdicts from international and domestic courts, affirming the genocide in Srebrenica where over 8,000 Bosniaks were killed. More than 50 individuals have been sentenced to around 700 years in prison for their roles in the genocide and other war crimes in the region.

Join us live at 4:00 p.m. as we broadcast the UN General Assembly’s session on the Resolution. Let’s honor the victims and ensure history’s truths are remembered.
