In London, a new criminal complaint has been filed alleging British government officials’ complicity in the intentional starvation of Palestinians, adding to an existing case presented by the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians (ICJP) in January. The ICJP, comprised of legal experts and advocates for Palestinian rights, submitted the 60-page complaint on May 17, naming 22 individuals, including five senior UK government ministers. The evidence, gathered from 19 medical professionals working in Gaza, highlights the dire consequences of Israel’s blockade, resulting in malnourished patients and severe medical shortages.
The complaint argues that UK ministers are complicit in aiding Israeli war crimes by providing military support and moral encouragement. If the Metropolitan Police decides to open a formal investigation, alleged perpetrators could face arrest and prosecution.
Tayab Ali, director of the ICJP, emphasized the importance of holding accountable those involved in enabling suspected Israeli war criminals. The UK government’s response to the allegations has been varied, with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressing support for Israel’s security measures while also calling for humanitarian aid to reach Gaza.
