British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak made a footballing gaffe during his campaign tour in south Wales. Despite Wales not qualifying for Euro 2024, Sunak asked brewery workers if they were looking forward to the football. Awkwardly, one employee pointed out that Wales wasn’t in the tournament.

This isn’t the first time Sunak found himself in hot water over football. In 2022, he mistakenly talked about his team Southampton FC playing Manchester United when they were actually facing Leicester City.

During his visit to Vale of Glamorgan Brewery, Sunak emphasized support for the industry, mentioning a “Brexit pubs guarantee” and assistance with business rates. This visit was part of his UK-wide campaign tour after announcing a general election on 4th July.

Despite these slip-ups, Sunak remains optimistic about a “good summer of sport”. He also visited William West Distribution in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, and is set to travel to Scotland next.
