Norway bans Russian tourists over aggression towards Ukraine.

The Norwegian government has taken a firm stance against Russia by banning the entry of Russian citizens for tourism or non-essential travel. Effective May 29, Russian travelers may be denied entry at Norway’s external border, regardless of where their visa was issued within the Schengen area.

Exceptions will only be made for visits to close relatives in Norway, or for Russian citizens studying or working in Norway or other Schengen countries. This decision follows a previous tightening of visa practices in 2022, where tourist visas for Russians have become difficult to obtain.

Norway’s Minister of Justice and Public Security, Emilie Enger Mehl, emphasized the country’s commitment to supporting allies in the face of Russia’s aggression towards Ukraine. This move aligns with Norway’s efforts to stand united against illegal acts of war.

With these new restrictions in place, Norway sends a strong message of solidarity with its international partners, making it clear that the country will not tolerate acts of aggression or violations of international law.
