Israeli minister claims Ireland is ‘rewarding terrorism’

Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Israel Katz, has strongly criticized Ireland’s decision to recognize the state of Palestine. In a post on social media platform X, Katz accused Ireland of rewarding terrorism by declaring support for a Palestinian state, suggesting that Hamas was thankful for this support. The post included a video juxtaposing images of the Irish tricolour with footage of Palestinian attacks on Israel, set to traditional Irish music.

Following this announcement, Ireland’s Taoiseach, Simon Harris, confirmed the country’s formal recognition of Palestine. This move aligns with Ireland’s historical struggle for independence and self-determination, echoing the country’s own plea for international recognition back in 1919.

In solidarity with Ireland, Spain and Norway have also pledged to recognize Palestinian statehood. The formal announcement is set for next Tuesday, with Ireland emphasizing the importance of maintaining hopes for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This decision marks an historic and significant day for both Ireland and Palestine.
