Haneda Airport’s International Passenger Record: 19.1M in FY2023

Tokyo’s Haneda airport saw a record-high of 19.1 million international flight passengers in fiscal 2023, a 2.8-fold increase from the previous year. This surge was largely due to the relaxation of COVID-19 border measures, leading to a growth in inbound tourist traffic. The transport ministry’s East Japan Civil Aviation Bureau reported a 16% rise in domestic flights at the airport, totaling 61.8 million.

Since resuming international flights in 2010, Haneda airport has become Japan’s second busiest international airport, closely following Narita International Airport in neighboring Chiba Prefecture. In fiscal 2023, Narita saw over 26 million international passengers, doubling the numbers from the previous year.

Japan welcomed a record 3.08 million foreign visitors in March, continuing to top the 3 million mark in April. The country lifted border control measures for travelers in May last year, classifying COVID-19 as a common disease.
