President Daniel Noboa of Ecuador has declared a 60-day state of emergency in response to escalating violence in seven provinces and the Ponce Enríquez canton, targeting areas plagued by organized crime.
In his fight against narcoterrorism, Noboa’s government has been combatting 22 criminal groups since January, now officially recognized as terrorists.
Recognizing the regional impact of these groups, Noboa emphasized the urgent need for this declaration, citing recent violent episodes that caused numerous deaths.
He highlighted the importance of giving the Armed Forces and Police greater operational freedom to effectively address security threats, stating that military intervention is essential for success.
