Protest at Kamionka Dorm: Locks Changed, Power Cut Off

Despite facing increased pressure from Jagiellonian University authorities, a group of students persists in their occupation strike at the now-defunct Kamionka dormitory in Kraków. The university has cited poor technical conditions and potential health hazards as reasons for the order to evacuate the building, but the students remain adamant in their protest.

In response, the university has taken drastic measures, including changing locks on the entrance doors and cutting off the electricity supply. However, during a meeting with the Workers’ Initiative delegation, university officials committed to suspending the sale process of the former dormitories at Kamionka 11 and 11a until final decisions about their future are made. Additionally, there are no plans to sell the Bursa Jagiellońska student house, which will continue to serve as a residence and workspace for members of the academic community.

The situation remains tense as both parties stand firm in their positions. The students’ determination to continue the strike in the face of adversity reflects their commitment to advocating for their rights and the preservation of student housing facilities in Kraków.
