Lawmakers urge Biden to authorize Ukraine to deploy US weapons in Russia

Washington, (Sputnik) – A bipartisan group of US lawmakers sent a letter to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin demanding that he allow Ukraine to use US-supplied long-range weapons to carry out strikes inside Russian territory. The lawmakers, including US House Intelligence Committee Chairman Michael Turner, expressed strong support for this request, citing the need for Ukraine to have the ability to strike strategic targets within Russian territory under certain circumstances.

The US lawmakers argue that the Biden administration’s policy of discouraging Ukraine from striking Russian territory and restricting the use of US-supplied weapons is hindering Ukraine’s ability to push back Russian forces near the city of Kharkiv. They also called for more training of Ukrainian pilots to operate F-16 fighter jets.

Amidst escalating tensions, European leaders have considered direct intervention in the conflict, with discussions of potential military involvement. The Kremlin has described the situation as an unprecedented escalation requiring special attention and measures to avoid a collapse in Ukraine.
