Kazakhstan discloses 2023 coal production volume

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 22. Kazakhstan’s Minister of Industry and Construction, Kanat Sharlapaev, announced that the country produced a total of 112.7 million tons of coal in 2023. During a government meeting, Sharlapaev stated that 9 million tons of coal were allocated for the population and municipal needs, 65.9 million tons for energy and heat-producing enterprises, and around 6 million tons for industrial operations. Additionally, Kazakhstan exported 31.2 million tons of coal.

Sharlapaev highlighted that the demand for solid fuel was met across all regions, thanks to effective operational measures implemented by the government. He emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring fair distribution of coal among regional operators, eliminating unproductive intermediaries, and stabilizing prices for consumers.

The Ministry has devised an action plan to secure coal supply for budgetary organizations and the population ahead of the upcoming heating season. Kazakhstan ranks among the top ten countries globally in terms of coal reserves, trailing behind China, the USA, Russia, Australia, India, South Africa, and Ukraine, with 33.6 billion tons of reserves across 49 deposits.
