Condolences Offered by Iraqi PM Al-Sudani to Iran’s Supreme Leader
In a show of solidarity and support, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran to offer condolences for the tragic deaths of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
Al-Sudani expressed profound sympathies on behalf of the Iraqi government and people for the loss of the Iranian officials and praised Raisi’s efforts in promoting collaboration and peace in the region.
Khamenei, in turn, emphasized the strong relations between Iran and Iraq and thanked Al-Sudani for his condolences and sympathy.
The tragic incident occurred when a helicopter carrying the Iranian officials crashed in mountainous terrain in dense fog, with an investigation currently underway to determine the cause of the accident.
Despite the loss, both countries remain committed to cooperation and protection of their mutual interests, as declared by Khamenei during the meeting.
The news of the deaths has deeply affected both nations, with Iran declaring five days of mourning in honor of the late officials.
