BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 22. The partnership between the Prosecutor General’s Offices of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan in fighting crime continues to yield positive results. A recent case involving the extradition of a Kazakh citizen highlights this successful collaboration.
The General Prosecutor’s Office of Kazakhstan requested the criminal prosecution of Serik Sadyrbayev, a Kazakh national born in 1989, for alleged fraudulent activities. The General Prosecutor’s Office of Azerbaijan granted this request and detained Sadyrbayev in February 2024, after he was located in Azerbaijan and placed on the international wanted list.
Following procedures outlined in the 2002 Convention on Legal Assistance and Legal Relations, Azerbaijan agreed to extradite Sadyrbayev to Kazakhstan. He was transferred to Kazakh authorities under the supervision of Azerbaijan’s Penitentiary Service in a successful handover.
