After delays, the U.S. Congress approved a $61 billion foreign aid package for Ukraine in April. The Pentagon is ready to send $1 billion worth of weapons to Kyiv from U.S. stockpiles, with another $400 million defense aid package authorized on May 10.

However, it might take time for the new aid’s effects to be felt on the battlefield, as Russia launched an offensive with 30,000 troops on May 10 targeting Kharkiv Oblast in northeastern Ukraine.

President Volodymyr Zelensky highlighted the critical shortage of artillery shells in Ukraine due to delays in U.S. military aid, emphasizing the importance of timely decisions and support.

U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin described the ongoing defense against the Russian offensive as a “hard and dangerous fight.”
