An Italian Treasury source has confirmed to Agence France Presse that the G7 is considering a $50 billion fund for Ukraine backed by a $350 billion pool of seized Russian assets. The plan, if approved by the European Union, could be tabled at the G7 summit. US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has also expressed support for the idea.
In a speech, Yellen emphasized the importance of unlocking the value of Russian sovereign assets for the benefit of Ukraine. She stressed the need to continue cracking down on Russian sanctions evasion. The plan involves creating a G7 loan backed by future profits on the $350 billion asset pool.

Lithuanian Prime Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis supported the idea of Western military trainers in Ukraine and argued for the removal of limitations on Ukrainian use of weapons. His comments align with those of Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, who emphasized the need to empower Ukraine to achieve strategic objectives, including targeting Russian territory and military units.
“We must abandon these rules that we created,” Landsbergis concluded, echoing Kallas’s sentiment that sending NATO troops to train with Ukrainian soldiers would not lead to war with Russia.
