Sikkim sets up panel to investigate tour operators’ overcharging

Sikkim Government Forms Committee to Investigate Exorbitant Taxi Rates and Travel Permit Fees

In response to complaints of exorbitant rates for taxis and travel permits charged by tour operators in Sikkim, the state government has formed a three-member committee to investigate the issue. This action comes after the Union Tourism Ministry raised concerns based on complaints received through the Centralised Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System.

The committee, headed by an additional secretary of the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, has been tasked with submitting a report within 15 days. The government has warned of strict action against any tour operator found overcharging tourists.

This proactive step by the Sikkim government aims to address the grievances of travelers and ensure fair and reasonable pricing in the tourism sector. By taking swift and decisive action, the government is reaffirming its commitment to protecting the interests of visitors and promoting transparency in the travel industry.
