Ruto’s meeting with President Biden at the White House will also address the UN-backed initiative to send a Kenya-led police force to Haiti to combat rampant gang violence and instability. Despite delays due to recent armed attacks in Haiti, the deployment of around 2,500 personnel, including 1,000 Kenyan police officers, is imminent.

However, concerns remain over financial support for the mission and controlling arms flow into Haiti. There is also criticism within Kenya regarding public consultation and human rights violations by the police force.
