Two Jordanian nationals with alleged affiliations to Al-Qaeda or Daesh were apprehended in the US while attempting to trespass and drive a truck into a Marine Corps Base in Virginia, as reported by the New York Post.
The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed the arrests of the two individuals at Marine Corps Base Quantico. ICE spokesperson James Covington stated that the Jordanian noncitizens were taken into custody for trespassing on May 3, 2024.
Reports from Potomac Local News indicated that the pair had recently crossed the US southern border, with one individual potentially being on a government terrorist watch list. While authorities did not confirm their watch list status or divulge details about the truck’s contents, they announced that the detainees will be deported.
The suspects drove a box truck to the base’s front gate, claiming to be making a delivery for a company subcontracted by Amazon. The military police officers detained them when they realized the individuals lacked proper credentials to access the base.
The swift response of the officers prevented further access to the base, and the suspects were turned over to ICE custody. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.
