Recent reports from Indian media highlight Yemen’s success in shooting down American MQ-9 drones, making it a challenging environment for such aircraft. This has raised concerns in India about the purchase of similar drones for its military forces.
An Indian news website, “NBT,” published a report stating that Yemen has become a “graveyard” for the advanced American MQ-9 Reaper drone, with the sixth one shot down in a year in Marib province. India, which had plans to acquire 30 MQ-9B drones from the US, is reconsidering its decision due to these developments.
The need for powerful drones arose in India amidst tensions with neighboring countries like China and Pakistan. The recent downing of an MQ-9 aircraft in Bayda province by the Yemeni Armed Forces during the battle “the Promised Conquest and Holy Jihad” further emphasizes the challenges faced by such drones in conflict zones.
