The Democratic Republic of Congo’s army thwarted an assassination attempt on President Felix Tshisekedi in Kinshasa.

Congolese and foreign fighters were involved in the attempt, leading to the arrest of 50 suspects, including three Americans and a British citizen.

The incident took place at Vital Kamerhe’s residence, where gunmen attacked resulting in casualties.

The attackers also occupied the Palace of Nations and the president’s office, linked to the New Zaire Movement.

Former politician Christian Malanga was killed during the resistance resulting in his son’s arrest, shocking the US ambassador.

African Union President condemned the coup attempt, as President Tshisekedi, starting his second term, faces challenges following disputed elections.

The situation remains tense as investigations progress into the violent attempt on the president’s life.
